ROCK
ICON DR. JOHN RECORDS "T-VILLE" THEME SONG WITH
ALL STAR BAND
 |

Backstage at the B.B. King Blues Club: (l. to r.) Jonny
Ospa, Mac Rebbanack a.k.a. "Dr. John", &
June Rachelson-Ospa. |
June
Rachelson-Ospa went to see Dr. John at BB King's Blues Club
with her sons, Jacob, Jonathan and husband Jerry.
June
sent a short note to the Doctor that she was in the audience
with her family, and Dr. John (aka Mac Rebbanack) welcomed
her backstage. You see, June had a history with one of Dr.
John's longtime friends, the legendary Doc Pomus.
Doc
Pomus and Dr. John co-wrote a Grammy winning album together
for B.B. King called "There Must Be A Better World
Someplace." (need to get real info on this) and many
other songs and projects.
June
introduced her family told Mac about Jonny's Tourette Syndrome.
Mac responded that he "may have had a touch of that"
himself. Jonny and Mac bonded on the spot.
A
few days later, June called Mac and asked him if he'd record
a cover of "One Of A Kind You", the message song
in T'ville. Dr. John gave her a "yes" in honor
of Doc, and also because Mac has some friends in London
who have a child with TS.
Next,
June called her partner, Daniel Neiden, with the great news
and Daniel took the lead arranging the session with Dr John's
manager, Peter Himberger, Parlophone/EMI in London..Daniel
and June met with Michael Wolf and Alex Foster and gathered
the players together... June got old pals Mitch and Ira
of M & I Studios to record the project (June knew them
from way back when Dr. John and Doc Pomus had recorded there...
June's longtime friend and collaborator (they've just musicalized
Stella Luna), Jody Gray, was brought on as the Music Producer.
Daniel's
search yielded Tony Garnier (Bob Dylan's bass player) Lenny
Pickett (Sax) and Shawn Pelton (Drums) of The Saturday Night
Live Orchestra, and Guitarist Ben Butler, who ALL warmed
to the cause, and showed up in a flash to record with Dr.
John.
One
of the highlights of the sessions was when Jonny picked
up his saxophone and jammed with the Mac.
Once
the session was done, Jody had just added Andy Ezrin on
Organ, and asked to add string parts.

"Jon & John": Jonny Ospa poses with Mac
Rebbanack ("Dr. John"). |
16
players who span the classical (NY Philharmonic, Orchestra
of St. Lukes) and Rock world (David Bowie, Paul Simon) were
contacted by violist Martha Mook to record Jody's string
arrangement. It finished One Of A Kind You, beautifully.
The
team is working to give the song as much life as possible
via appearances, sales, licensing, with the proceeds going
to Tourette causes and more Tourette awareness.
